Biography (short)

Education: Dr. Fernandez Leon Fellenz graduated as a System Engineer (2001), Masters (2006), and Doctor (PhD) in Computer Science (2009) at the National University of Central Buenos Aires (UNCPBA), Argentina. 

In 2010, he got another doctoral degree (DPhil) in Cognitive Science/Informatics/Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the University of Sussex-Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Robotics (CCNR), United Kingdom. 

He received rigorous advanced (postdoctoral) training in different fields, such as Neural Data Science, Computational and Systems Neuroscience from Harvard Medical School-Harvard University (USA), Baylor College of Medicine (USA), and The Univ. of Texas Medical School (USA).

Awards and Distinctions: He obtained several scholarships from the National Scientific and Technological Research Council (CONICET), ALBAN Scholarships (European Union), and The Peter Carpenter CCNR DPhil Scholarship (United Kingdom). Some distinctions include "Visiting Research Fellowships" (United Kingdom), the "Cesar Milstein Grant", and "Return Funding-Prog. Raíces and CONICET" (Argentina), among others. 

Current and Past  Research Positions: Research Scientist (Adjunct) at CIFICEN-CONICET, and a research member of the INTIA-UNCPBA. From 2010-2019, he was a Research Fellow/Associate/Research Scientist in ​​Computational and Systems Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School-Harvard University (USA), Baylor College of Medicine (USA), and The Univ. of Texas Medical School (USA).  He has more than 60 publications in international journals and conferences. His current research areas and teaching are Computing/Informatics, Neuro-Robotics, Systems and Computational Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, AI, and Adaptive and Evolutionary Systems.

Current Academic Position and Teaching: Professor (Profesor Adjunto) at Exact Sciences Faculty-UNCPBA (Argentina). He is Professor-in-charge of degree courses at Exact Sciences Faculty-UNCPBA: Neuroscience of Learning Machines, Modelling Brains, Adaptive Systems in Neuroscience and Computational Intelligence, and Compilers Design-1st semester. In addition, Professor associated with graduate courses: Compilers Design, and Programming Languages I.


Academic Management and other roles: Head of Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence/Robotics (NeuroAI) research in Neural Data Science at the INTIA-UNCPBA. Director/Tutor of undergraduate, graduate students, and CONICET-doctoral scholarships. Scientific project reviewer. 


Knowledge Transfer and Scientific Divulgation:  He is involved in public knowledge transfer and talks to the scientific and non-scientific communities.
